Martin J. O’Neill of Fine Lake passed away at the age of 79 on January 8, 2023. The time had come for him to go to his Heavenly Home. He was born July 27, 1943, in Jackson, Michigan. He was the son of Howard and Loraine (Martin) O’Neill. Martin was preceded in death by his father in 1962, his mother in 2003, and his mother’s second husband Martin Meyers of Fine Lake in 2006.
He is survived by his loving, caring, and adorable wife Diane. He is also survived by his sister Patty (Mike) Scheid, his 6 children, Diane’s 4 children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was especially thankful for the five children that acknowledged him until his passing Cindy Stiles, Chrissy (Jarrod) Goodrich, Vicky (Eric) Schneider, Paul Hacke, and Greg (Bernice) Hacke.
He met his wife in Phoenix in 1986, and they were married in 1991. Marty especially liked the many trips he and Diane took to Laughlin and Las Vegas. They would meet up with old friends from Phoenix and other friends and family. He enjoyed watching his wife play in many Billiard Championships in Vegas and the 7 Royal Flushes he hit. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, even bowled a 726 in high school. He later enjoyed playing the “Wall Street Casino.” He was a fan of NASCAR, PGA Golf, and NFL football. He liked working around his home and yard with his wife. He liked their attentive cat “Kitty.” He looked forward to family and friends coming over for a visit. He liked the big family meals his wife would lay out, and the lake living they had for the last 30 years.
Marty had many different jobs and never had employment that he didn’t like and enjoy. He was a barber, a snack food delivery guy, and a bus operator for 20 years for transit systems in Phoenix, Indianapolis, Battle Creek, and Grand Rapids. He retired at age 61 and then started working again at age 65, delivering trucks across all of the states and many Canadian provinces, and even called them “mini vacations.” He retired again at age 74.
Marty went for direct cremation and there will be no funeral. His wife still has some hobbies to work on, pool to play, and some other things to do, so Marty will be interred with her when the time comes. Arrangements by Bachman Hebble Funeral Service (269) 965-5145. www.bachmanhebble.com
