Obituary

Rita “Kay” Shive, 66, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Friday, January 15, 2021. She was born March 4, 1954 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Morgan and Melba (Rogers) Burke. Rita married Richard Shive, Jr. on June 5, 1971 in Battle Creek. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, reading, and spending time with her family. Her grandsons were her pride and joy. Rita was the caretaker of the family. She inserted herself and her love into everything she did when it came to her family. Rita loved to joke around at home. She had a big heart and a kind soul and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughters: Michelle (Peter III) Oppenhuisen and Rachel Shive; grandsons: Bradley Reichhart, Hunter Shive, and Peter Oppenhuisen IV; sisters: Joyce, Wanda, Vickie, Loma, and Linda; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and five brothers.
Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12:30 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Growing up with 7 sisters, you have a different connection with each one. Kay and I had a very strong bond growing together from little girls into young women together, and then of course into "ole women" together. Even when we were very young I respected my sister.and always thought she had grace and self respect. I always looked up to her. I will forever be grateful that I was able to be with as her journey here on earth was ending. I will forever love and miss you sister,

Marion Shive
