Georgia Mae Smith, 90, of Battle Creek, MI, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at her home in Battle Creek, MI. She was born December 28, 1930 in Lownes County, AL the daughter of George Washington Lewis and Lula Mae Lewis (Taylor). After graduating from high school she married Buster Smith Jr.
Georgia always enjoyed attending church and was a devoted member of First Salem Baptist Church for thirty years and then later attending Truth in Action Full Gospel. She loved all types of flowers and was an avid gardener. She also was a great cook and loved cooking from scratch; especially her famous sweet potato pie. Georgia loved spending time with her family and took great pride in being a mother and wife. She also loved the color red.
She is survived by 5 daughters: Marie Baynard, Joyce Smith, Jacqueline (Kelvin) King, Rodie Mae (Brian) Murphy Smith, Carol Smith; 2 sons: James Smith, and Ulysses (Betina) Smith; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Buster; her parents; one sister Minnie Lewis Wooten; three daughters: Lucy Smith, Mattie Smith, Ora Lee Smith; and one son Leonard Smith
Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 5-7PM. A celebration of life will be held at the Bachman Funeral Chapel Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 1PM.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery
