Verlen "Pete" Dean Sherwin, 85, of Grand Rapids, MI, formerly of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020. He was born July 3, 1935 in Battle Creek, the son of Orlen Merrill and Vera Ann (McNeal) Sherwin. Pete graduated from Battle Creek Academy in 1953. He attended Andrew University, completing his Associate Degree. Pete married Kathleen Limberg. Pete was a master craftsman and built many homes and installed many in-ground pools. His work history consisted of Fisher Body Co in Flint, Weiss Cabinet in Port Huron, US Lumber Co., and Sherwin Construction before retiring in 2000. Pete wasn’t one to stay idle and took the opportunity after retirement to go on mission trips to Ecuador and Chile. He was a member of both the Battle Creek and Delton Lions Clubs and the Urbandale Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pete was a Deacon at Urbandale and Grand Rapids Central Seventh-day Adventist Churches. He enjoyed snowmobiling, working, and spending time with his church family. Pete was a great father and loved his family deeply.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Timothy (Birgit) Sherwin, Teri (James) Rodgers, Thomas (Meredith) Sherwin, and Traci (Eric) Umali; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, LaVonne Peak and Neal Sherwin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
