Palma Lauree “Polly” Simkins, age 67, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away under Hospice Care at their home in Battle Creek, MI on Saturday, August 15, 2020.
She was born May 13, 1953 in Sioux City, IA the daughter of William Stanton Yeager and Laura Maxine (Carlson) Yeager.
Polly graduated from Akron High School in Akron, Iowa. She married Keith Willard Simkins, in Sioux City, Iowa on September 23, 1977; they have been married for 43 years.
Palma worked at the Goodwill Store right out of high school in Sioux City, Iowa. She was Secretary to the Sioux City Country Club for 5 years, and then was a secretary in a life insurance company in Dallas, TX. She was Managing Editor of the Edgemont Herald Tribune in Iowa for 5 years in the 1980's.She began as a file clerk from 1987-88 at the Hot Springs, So Dakota VA Medical Center then transferred to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center and became the Chief of Human Resources when she retired in May 2013. She was always a big hearted and compassionate leader in every position she held.
She is survived by husband: Keith Willard Simkins, of Battle Creek, MI; two daughters: Jennifer Joy & Robert Bentley of Burlington, MI; Laura Roxanne & Stephen Turner of Clarksville, TN; her son: Shawn Willard Simkins of Grand Rapids, MI; five grandchildren: Cody Bentley, Brandi Bentley, Samantha Turner, Kaitlyn Turner, and Sabastian Simkins; and her sister: Beverly Joyce Brown of Omaha, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother: William Yeager (2016).
She really loved cooking up new recipes, working in her flower garden, going to the casino, and her most special days were spent with family and friends. She relished the times to feed the birds; especially the Cardinals and she loved angels and had a large collection of angel figurines. She was a fierce Cribbage player; she always enjoyed dancing with her husband. They had met while at a Dance. She would travel the nation for work on National committees. She was a member of the Galesburg United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Thursday, August 20, 2020 where the family will greet friends abiding by social distancing from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held in the Bachman Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Carolyn Robinson-Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI.
