Obituary

Robert Edwin “Bobby” Dean, Jr., 79, of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born May 13, 1941 in Battle Creek, the son of Robert and Laura (Price) Dean, Sr. During Bob's school years he was very involved in sports. He ran track, played basketball, softball, and hard ball. He continued on after school to pitch hard ball, play tennis, and play football every Sunday at Northwester. He married Doris Perry on December 30, 1966. Bob found his niche when he started coaching hard ball and floor hockey and umpiring for softball. He truly had a passion for working with kids. He was an all-around good man and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Bob retired from the City of Battle Creek after 30 plus years of service. He loved riding motorcycles and cruising around in his fast cars. He was hard working and very giving of his time and himself. He enjoyed working outside in construction, antiquing, going to auctions, and gardening. He wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Doris Dean; children, Robin Hendricks of Oklahoma and Christopher Dean of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; sisters, Patricia "Patty" Perry of Battle Creek and Janice Dean of Georgia; aunts, Clarice Dean and Juanita Dean both of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Tina Ray and Toni Perry; paternal grandparents, Robert (Clio) Dean; maternal grandparents, Arthur (Jannie) Price; and grandparents, Gene (Josephine) Robinson.
Due to COVID 19 and the limitations of only 10 people for a funeral all services will be private. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. (269)965-5145 www.bachmanhebble.com

One of my fondest memories of Uncle Bob were when all gathered at Ma & Papa’s (Laura & Robert Dean Sr) house in the backyard...as kids Uncle Bob would bounce us on his knee...he was my Fun Uncle! Then as I grew older, I saw Uncle Bob as a tower of strength, and one who challenged us to be our very best..often engaging me, my siblings and cousins in thought provoking conversations....Thank You Uncle Bob for broading my thinking..and for so many fond memories shared over the years! I love you..Lori
