Shirlian Marie (Horvath) Lumbert left us to be with her Lord on May 2, 2020. She was born April 18, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. Shirley was a lifelong devout Catholic. She and Charles met at Leila Hospital and attended St. Philip Roman Catholic Church and St. Jerome Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Shirley was a well-known athlete, having earned three state records and one national record for her age group in the bench press weight lifting competition. She was the fitness coordinator at Burnham Brook Senior Center and was one grade away from black belt in Korean Tae Kwon Do karate. She loved conducting TSS fitness classes at Burnham Brook. Shirley enjoyed many years walking six miles each day with her friend Karen Bittner.
She is survived by her loving husband, Charles; sons, Joseph (Holly Bouck) Lumbert and Gordon Lumbert; brother-in-law, Jim (Becky Miller) Lumbert; sisters-in-law, Barbara Lumbert-Pickett, Carolyn Lumbert-Seidl, and Leona (John) Potter; half-brother, Steve (Kandy Kane) Barnum; step-brother, James (Dianne) Barnum, Jr.; nephews and nieces, Matthew (Mindy) Lumbert, Angela (Rob) Thornburgh, and Jenny (Larry) Hayes; birth brother, Dave Snell; birth sister, Pam (Don) Ockert; many grand nieces and nephews; close friends, Karen (Dennis) Bittner, Dianne (Bill) Elliott, Kathy (Duane) Short; and her 35 member fitness class at Burnham Brook Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by adoptive parents Frank and Francis (Peggy) Horvath, Grandparents Frank and Phoebe Schrader, brother Stephen Horvath, and birth mother Helen Snell.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Burial will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Arrangements by Bachman Hebble Funeral Service (269) 965-5145.

I am so sorry to hear Shirly has passed away. What a lovely lady. I will miss her at church. May God Bless her soul, raise her up, and give her everlasting peace.....May God confort her family....

Chuck, You may not remember me, but I certainly have great memories of you and Shirley as Red Cross volunteers. It has been a long time, but the thoughts of your service and dedication are still very vivid. I am saddened to learn of Shirley's passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to you and family Shirley certainly made the World a better place for all of us while she was here. Pat Fosdick
