Brenda Deane (Fugate) Drake-Giles, age 67, of Athens, MI, passed away under hospice care at her home on Friday, May 1, 2020 in Athens, MI.
She was born November 14, 1952 in Battle Creek, MI the daughter of Olvin Fugate and Sally (Sturdivant) Fugate.
Brenda went to Lakeview High School with the class of 1970..
Brenda had taught horticulture for 10 years at the Calhoun Area Technology Center. She was the former owner of Dunkin Donuts on West Columbia Avenue.
She married Darrell Duane Giles in their backyard in East Leroy on August 29 1987 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2019.
She is survived by her daughter: Daughter: Shannon Maria Williams-Zillmer and Brian Zillmer of Athens, MI; son Douglas Landen & Loretta Drake of East Leroy, MI; seven grandchildren: Andrew Williams of Athens: James & Jessica Adkins of Jackson, MI; Ashley Williams of Tomah, Wisconsin; Stanley Zillmer of Sparta, Wisconsin; Landen Drake of East Leroy; Cody Drake of East Leroy; and Jaxon Drake of East Leroy, MI.; two great grandchildren: Zackary and Zoey Adkins of Jackson, MI; one brother Thomas Fugate of Battle Creek, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Brenda enjoyed reading her Daily Bread spiritual meditations every morning, loved being outside planting trees and flowers; she was a former member of the Eagles; her door was always open to everyone; she was the Life of the party, she lived every day to the fullest, she loved animals..
The family wanted to acknowledge the support, love and friendship of the people from Hospice Care of SW Michigan and especially Amy. The outdoor celebration of Life service will be at the family property at 20100 North Bedford Road and her close family and friends should be reminded to please wear face masks and abide by the social distancing.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 9, 2020 at their property located at 20100 North Bedford Road, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM.If those of you are moved to pay your respects during the time of visitation/gathering, you may do so staying in your cars and driving through the circle drive and out onto M-37. Memorial services will follow at 5:00 PM May 9, 2020 with Pastor Jeff Worden officiating.
