It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Roger Terry Barnett, Sr., age 79, announces the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on December 28, 2019 at Evergreen Senior Care and Rehab Center in Springfield, MI.
He was born September 20, 1940 in Battle Creek, MI the son of Lloyd Carlye "Willie" Barnett, Jr. and Hilda Lucille (Terry) Barnett.
Roger graduated from WK Kellogg Agricultural School and then took vocational training course in machine repair operations.
He was employed by Clark Equipment Company until they closed in 1982. While at Clark’s, he held many positions of which the last was a machinist in the experimental department. He then went on to work for Clark Lift in Grand Rapids and Industrial Lift Truck in Three Rivers as a forklift technician for both companies, before retiring in 2001.
After retirement, he met up regularly with some old friends and cronies at Ritzee or Mr. Dons Restaurant for breakfast and coffee.
He married the former Sally Ann Thomas at the Level Park Baptist Church in Battle Creek on June 15, 1963.
He is survived by his wife: Sally A. Barnett of Battle Creek, MI; three daughters: Terri (Steven) Roberts of Battle Creek, MI; Becki (Matt) DiPofi of Ypsilanti, MI; Christi Lynn Barnett of Battle Creek, MI; two sisters: Sharon I. Dahlman of Battle Creek, MI; LaVerne Wharton of Edwardsburg, MI; his brother: Robert "Bob" J. Barnett of Battle Creek, MI; three grandchildren: Heather Gwilt of Inkster, MI; Staci Hughey of Battle Creek, MI; and Bryan Roberts of Kalamazoo, MI; six great grandchildren; and his faithful dog CLARENCE!!!
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, son: Roger Barnett, Jr. (2017); his sister Diane Sabattis (2010).
He enjoyed going to car shows, building and driving dune buggies, he was a fan of racing, and loved camping. For over 30 years he was in a bowling league at Springlake Lanes, he loved his grandchildren dearly, and he attended the Level Park Baptist Church when he was younger. He was a very detail-oriented person and was sort of a "jack of all trades".
Visitation will be held at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, Friday, January 3, 2020 where the family will be present from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:30 AM in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Mr. Gary Yonkers officiating.
Burial will follow at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek, MI.
