Dale J. Spotts, 84, passed away on November 15, 2019 at his home in Newaygo, MI with his family by his side after a long battle with C.O.P. D. He was married to his devoted wife, Ellen J. “Jackie” (Patterson) Spotts for 59 years.
He was born to Dean and Fern Spotts on March 13, 1935 in Hillsdale, MI. After graduating from high school, Dale enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean war and served for 4 years. He was attending Western Michigan University under the GI Bill when he met Jackie in the Spring of 1960 and they wed on November 5, 1960. Dale re-enlisted in the Air Force in the Spring of 1961. He spent the next 19 years honorably serving in the Air Force and retired as a Tech Sergeant with 23 combined years of service. Dale’s second career with the Department of Defense lasted for another 20 years as a Quality Control Adjustor working at Smith Industries previously known as Lear Siegler, Inc. in Kentwood, MI.
Dale had a love for nature and enjoyed watching deer, turkeys, and birds in his Newaygo home. He liked to go hunting and fishing with family members, but his main passion was playing golf with his children and grandsons. In high school, he lettered in four varsity sports and watched the Detroit pro sports teams play on TV through out the years.
Dale is survived by his wife Jackie of Newaygo, MI; son Stanley (Sora) Spotts of Fort Wayne, IN: daughter Tracy (Bart) Johnson of Jenison, MI; son David (Amy) Spotts of Fremont, MI; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, brother Neil Spotts of Jonesville, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and memorial services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, Inc. 223 N. Bedford Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037 at 11:00 am and burial will be conducted with military honors at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI and is scheduled for 1 pm.
